Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bouhabib condemned the gunfire directed at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut’s Awkar area.

Bouhabib stated that he made “several phone calls to follow up on the incident and gather details with the concerned parties,” reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions operating in Beirut according to its obligations and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Earlier today, the embassy was targeted by gunfire from three unidentified gunmen, who used light weapons during their attack.

The Lebanese army announced that one of the attackers was apprehended, injured, and of Syrian nationality.

Lebanon’s “Al Jadeed” channel reported continuous gunfire for approximately half an hour in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy in the Awkar area, north of Beirut.
