Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry revealed the real reason for the closure of the Rafah crossing, clarifying that it has become a theater for military operations.

During a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart on Tuesday in Cairo, he emphasized that the Rafah crossing has turned into a theater of military operations and has become a danger to truck drivers.

He explained that there is stubbornness in delivering aid from the Israeli side, pointing out that there are many casualties among the workers of organizations working to deliver aid to Gaza.

He added: “We continue to demand the necessity of opening the crossings to allow aid entry and to provide conditions to address the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza.”

Regarding the meeting with the Cypriot minister, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on his official page on the X platform that the discussions table included confirming the depth and strength of the relations between Egypt and Cyprus.

He also clarified that there was an emphasis on enhancing bilateral cooperation (investment, energy, maritime transport, and tourism) between the two countries, indicating that discussions were held on the developments of the war in Gaza and ways to end the current crisis in all its dimensions.
