King Abdullah of Jordan met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Thursday to address recent developments in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement from the Royal Court, He emphasized the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza to halt the ongoing humanitarian disaster and to ensure the continuous and unrestricted delivery of aid. The meeting, held at Quirinale Palace and attended by HRH Prince Ghazi, the King’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, also touched upon the indispensability of a just resolution to the Palestinian issue through the two-state solution for regional peace and stability.

King Abdullah also expressed gratitude for Italy’s endorsement of the two-state solution. The discussions further delved into the strong bilateral relations between the two nations and peoples.

President Mattarella aligned with Jordan’s stance, especially in striving for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a political pathway toward peace based on the two-state solution. He praised Jordan’s efforts in aiding Gaza and alleviating the Gazans’ hardships, highlighting the Kingdom’s crucial role during this pivotal period in the region.

Moreover, President Mattarella cautioned about the potential repercussions of a military incursion into Rafah and the possible escalation of conflicts in the area.

The meeting was also attended by Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of Jafar Hassan, Jordan’s Ambassador to Italy Qais Abu Daieh, and several high-ranking Italian officials.
