In a groundbreaking move, the United States gears up to impose sanctions on the Israel Defense Forces’ Netzah Yehuda battalion over alleged abuses against Palestinians. This decision coincides with Congress approving $26 billion in emergency aid to Israel.

According to Israeli media reports, US State Department officials confirm preparations to penalize the battalion under the 1997 Leahy law, marking the first time the US targets an IDF unit. Israeli political leaders express immediate opposition and outrage.

The proposed sanctions, if enforced, would block US military aid and participation in training programs for the battalion. Meanwhile, tensions escalate following Israeli airstrikes in Rafah, resulting in the deaths of 18, including 14 children, as reported by Gaza health officials.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent statement on Israel’s alleged violation of the Leahy law adds to the gravity of the situation, signaling a significant shift in US-Israel relations.
