Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi cautioned US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during their meeting today (Thursday) about the serious consequences of any Israeli military operation in Rafah, south of Gaza. He also stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
Sisi and Blinken discussed joint efforts to mediate a ceasefire and exchange detainees. Sisi pointed out the humanitarian catastrophe and famine threatening civilians in the sector.
Sisi emphasized the urgent need to deliver sufficient humanitarian aid to the sector and to open political avenues through intensified efforts to activate the two-state solution and establish an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem.
Both sides agreed on the importance of taking all necessary measures to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to the sector and to reject the displacement of Palestinians from their lands in any form.
Blinken arrived in Egypt today after his visit to Saudi Arabia yesterday as part of a regional tour to discuss efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
