In a recent development, Israel conducted airstrikes near Damascus, claiming the life of a Hezbollah fighter in the Qusayr area, close to the Syrian-Lebanese border.

The attack, which involved an Israeli drone targeting a truck, occurred shortly after similar strikes in the region.

Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported the incident, stating that Hezbollah, a significant force along Lebanon’s eastern border with Syria, has also been a target in previous attacks.

Simultaneously, Israeli airstrikes were directed at Syrian air defense and radar installations near the capital, Damascus.

While Syrian state media remained silent on the matter, eyewitnesses in Damascus reported hearing distant explosions during the strikes.

This marks another instance in the ongoing conflict, where Israel has consistently targeted pro-Iran forces, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Syrian army.

The escalation in hostilities between Israel and pro-Iran groups has become more pronounced in recent months, with frequent airstrikes occurring in the midst of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had previously reported Israeli strikes near Damascus, resulting in casualties among pro-Hezbollah fighters.

Israel, although rarely commenting on individual strikes, has consistently emphasized its stance against allowing Iran to expand its presence in Syria.

These developments unfold against the backdrop of Syria’s prolonged civil war, which has claimed over half a million lives and displaced millions since its eruption in March 2011.
