The Commission has declared the provision of €83 million in humanitarian assistance to aid those impacted by the conflict in Ukraine instigated by Russia in 2024.
The deliberate bombardment of Ukraine’s essential infrastructure by Russia, including healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and power networks, is drastically obstructing access to fundamental services for the populace.
The continuous bombings have resulted in an increasing number of Ukrainians facing homelessness and requiring support and shelter, especially under harsh winter conditions.
Given that approximately 14.6 million individuals require humanitarian help in Ukraine, the timing of this funding is critical.
Out of the total, €75 million is dedicated to humanitarian initiatives within Ukraine to deliver urgent aid, encompassing necessities like housing, protective services, potable water, education, and medical care.
The EU’s humanitarian approach in Ukraine currently prioritizes the safeguarding of those affected by the conflict, particularly those in proximity to the front lines.
An additional €8 million is earmarked for humanitarian efforts in Moldova, aiming to provide specialized support to the most at-risk groups, which includes humanitarian financial aid for essential needs, protection, and healthcare.
With the latest allocation, the European Commission’s total contribution to humanitarian aid projects aiding those affected by the Ukrainian conflict since the onset of Russia’s invasion in February 2022 reaches €926 million.
This sum includes €860 million directed towards humanitarian projects within Ukraine and €66 million to assist refugees who have sought refuge in neighboring Moldova.
Since 2014, EU humanitarian aid has been operational in Ukraine, focusing on conducting activities throughout the nation, especially in areas close to the front lines in the eastern and southern regions, which are more challenging to access.
