A mysterious gastrointestinal illness has rapidly spread on the Queen Victoria cruise ship, operated by British shipping and cruise line Cunard Cruise Line, leaving approximately 154 people on board experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating the large-scale outbreak, according to ABC.

The ship, with 1,824 passengers and 967 crew members, embarked from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 22, with its final destination set for Honolulu, HI on February 12.

Despite efforts to contain the illness, the CDC reports that the cause remains unknown. Initially, 139 individuals were reported to be infected on Friday, but the number increased to 154 on Saturday, with a total of 129 passengers and 25 crew members affected.

The situation raises concerns about the health and safety of those on board, prompting heightened scrutiny and preventive measures as the cruise ship continues its journey. The CDC’s investigation aims to determine the source and nature of the illness to implement appropriate measures for containment and prevention.
