First responders in California are actively engaged in a search for a US Marine Corps helicopter that went missing overnight, carrying five crew members.
The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter took off from Creech Air Force Base near Las Vegas with its intended destination being Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Tuesday night.
However, concerns arose when the helicopter was reported overdue after failing to arrive at its scheduled destination.
The Marine Corps confirmed in a statement that the missing personnel were from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, a unit within the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
In response to the situation, the Marines have enlisted the support of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and Civil Air Patrol to aid in the search efforts.
