The Iraqi government has condemned US airstrikes on its territory as a “violation of sovereignty.”

The airstrikes, which were carried out on Saturday, February 3, 2024, were in retaliation for a drone attack that killed three US soldiers in Jordan last week.

The Iraqi military said that the strikes targeted three locations in the country, including the town of al-Qaim near the Syrian border.

In a statement, the Iraqi government said that the strikes were “a flagrant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of Iraq and the region.”

The government also called on the US to “respect the sovereignty of Iraq and to stop its aggression against the Iraqi people.”

The US military has not yet commented on the Iraqi government’s statement.
