On Monday, the head of the Tunisian Red Crescent Society Abdul Latif Chabou announced that medical teams have been deployed to the Libyan border. The teams are providing support and assistance to African migrants, following authorization from Tunisian President Kais Saied. This assistance is extended to those heading toward Libya or those arriving from there.
During a phone interview on the national television news, Chabou added that a health check was conducted on the migrants, with some requiring more immediate medical attention.
These individuals were taken to the Ben Guerdane Hospital where they received necessary treatments and were subsequently discharged. However, one migrant who suffered a fracture continues to receive care due to the severity of his condition.
Moreover, Chabou reported that the organization provided the migrants with means to communicate with their families. Interestingly, a number of the migrants have expressed a voluntary wish to leave Tunisia and return to their home countries.
The head of the Tunisian Red Crescent emphasized that the decision for the migrants to leave Tunisia, whether to return to their home countries or to continue their journey to their final intended destination, is ultimately a personal one. The organization will continue to stand ready to offer essential support and care, respecting their personal decisions.
