70 US Soldiers Injured in Syria & Iraq Attacks

Approximately 70 U.S. soldiers have been wounded in recent attacks in Syria and Iraq, as reported by Al Jazeera and The New York Times.

These attacks have intensified against Washington’s positions in both countries following the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, which led to around 25,000 Palestinian casualties, predominantly women and children.

On the first day of 2024, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted another U.S. base in Syrian territory as part of their response to the Israeli aggression in Gaza. The Islamic Resistance has vowed to continue opposing the U.S. occupation forces in the region and retaliating against the Zionist entity’s massacres in Gaza.

More than 100 strikes have been recorded since the beginning of the year, targeting U.S. and Israeli interests in the Mediterranean Sea, Iraq, Eilat, and the Syrian Golan.

U.S. bases housing American forces in Iraq have been subject to numerous rocket and drone attacks up to 2022. However, these attacks ceased in the summer of 2022, leading to relative stability in Iraq. While no group claimed responsibility for these attacks, the U.S. attributed them to Iraqi factions allied with Iran.

Iraq declared the end of the presence of foreign “combat” troops within its borders at the end of 2021. The remaining mission of the international coalition is now advisory and training only. About 2,500 U.S. soldiers and 1,000 coalition troops remain stationed across three military bases in Iraq.
