On Wednesday, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels asserted that they had launched drones and missiles targeting an American ship, following reports from US and UK forces about thwarting a significant attack in the Red Sea.

Military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that a “large number” of missiles and drones were directed at a US ship allegedly providing support to Israel in its conflict with Hamas. Saree’s statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), did not specify the timing or location of the attack.

Earlier the same day, the US military announced the interception of 18 drones and three missiles launched by the Houthis toward international shipping lanes in the Red Sea.

UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps described it as the “largest attack… to date” by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, aligned with the “axis of resistance” against Israel, have reportedly carried out over 100 drone and missile strikes in the Red Sea during the ongoing conflict in Gaza, according to figures from the Pentagon.
