The Chinese Ministry of Defense urged the United States on Wednesday to reduce military deployments and provocations in the South China Sea.

China stated on Wednesday that senior Chinese military officials informed their American counterparts during talks in Washington that their country “will never compromise” on the Taiwan issue.

In a statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Defense after the discussions held on Monday and Tuesday, it stated, “China will never compromise or retreat on the Taiwan issue.”

The ministry emphasized that Beijing calls on Washington to “stop arming Taiwan.”

Tensions between China and Taiwan have recently escalated, especially with the approaching presidential and parliamentary elections in Taipei.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense recently reported that it had detected Chinese drones suspected of having espionage capabilities flying over the Taiwan Strait.
