The Pentagon spokesperson, Patrick Ryder, announced that U.S. facilities in Iraq and Syria have been attacked 127 times since the escalation of the situation in the region began. Ryder, during a press conference, stated, “Since January 4, there have been nine attacks. In total, there have been 127 attacks, with 52 in Iraq and 75 in Syria.”
Since the beginning of the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria have been regularly targeted by rockets and drones. Washington believes these attacks are carried out by groups aligned with Iran.
Washington has deployed approximately 2,500 military personnel in Iraq and around 900 in Syria as part of the so-called “International Coalition to Combat ISIS,” formed in 2014.
Earlier, Iraqi factions warned Washington in a statement distributed through their Telegram channel of intensifying their targeting of American bases in Syria and Iraq. This comes in the wake of the Israeli military’s war on the Gaza Strip and the U.S. support for Israel.
The war on the Gaza Strip has entered its 95th day, with Israeli shelling continuing across various regions in the north and south of the Strip amidst a worsening humanitarian and health crisis. The tension in the West Bank is also escalating.
