An unidentified drone targeted the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) near the Ministry of Interior in the heart of Baghdad, leading the Iraqi government to hold the US-led international coalition responsible for the attack.

The Iraqi Prime Minister’s media office, in a statement released on Thursday, described the targeting of the security headquarters as a blatant assault on sovereignty, emphasizing the rejection of this attack in its entirety.

The Iraqi armed forces also attributed responsibility for the attack to the coalition, asserting that targeting security headquarters undermines all understandings of the coalition.

They viewed this as a serious escalation and an attack on Iraq, straying from the spirit and intent of the coalition’s mandate in the country.

This incident comes after security sources described to “Al Arabiya/Al Hadath” this development as dangerous, especially since the targeted location is a PMF headquarters, which the Iraqi government considers part of its armed forces.

A drone strike had earlier targeted a PMF base in East Baghdad, killing at least two fighters from the Najbaa faction and injuring five others. In response, the PMF raised its alert level, entering a state of maximum readiness across all its bases, according to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath.

This strike followed several attacks in recent weeks targeting military bases housing American forces in Iraq and Syria. These attacks have been claimed by the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” organization, which includes factions like Najbaa, Iraqi Hezbollah, and others.
