The number of fatalities from the severe earthquake that struck the northwestern Chinese provinces of Gansu and Qinghai has risen to 151, as reported by China’s news agency.

According to Russia Today, the 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred on Monday at 23:59 local time (18:59 Moscow time) in the Jishishan-Bao’an-Dongxiang-Salar Autonomous County of Linxia State in Gansu Province. The death toll was previously reported at 148.

The agency noted that the death count in Gansu Province remains at 117, while the number of fatalities in Qinghai Province has increased to 34.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China allocated 200 million yuan (approximately 28 million US dollars) to Gansu and Qinghai provinces for disaster relief efforts.

This tragic event has brought significant attention to the seismic activity in the region and the need for robust disaster management and preparedness.

The Chinese government’s response and the international community’s support are crucial in the ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
