WhatsApp has introduced a feature allowing users to pin chats in both individual and group conversations.

This new functionality permits the pinning of various types of conversations, including texts, polls, images, and emojis, but it’s limited to one pinned chat at a time.

To pin a chat, users of the Meta-owned messaging app need to long-press on a conversation and choose “Pin” from the emerging menu. The options for the duration of the pin include 24 hours, one week (the default setting), and 30 days.

The feature is especially handy in situations like visiting a friend’s house for the first time, where the friend can pin their address at the top of the chat for quick reference.

In group chats, it can be used to highlight important information or details about an event or to provide easy access to rules or critical data.

Within group settings, WhatsApp allows group admins to decide whether only they or any group member can pin a message.

Competing messaging services such as Telegram and iMessage already have a similar pin message functionality for both individual and group chats. It remains to be seen if WhatsApp will also add this pinned message feature to its Channels.

Recently, WhatsApp also introduced the capability to send self-destructing voice messages, which disappear after being listened to once by the recipient.
