US Warns of Military Aid Shortage for Ukraine

The White House issued a warning on Monday regarding US military assistance to Ukraine, which is at risk unless Congress approves new funding by the end of the year, stating, “Funds are running out, and time is quickly running short.”

“I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from US military stocks,” Shalanda Young, director of the office of management and budget, wrote in the letter, parts of which were published by the Hill.

This pertains to an exceptional aid package valued at over $100 billion requested by President Joe Biden on October 20th from Congress to address immediate needs, including assistance for Israel and Ukraine, countering China, and responding to the influx of migrants at the southern border.

The Budget Director in this letter emphasized that disrupting the flow of U.S. arms and equipment supplies would cripple Ukraine on the battlefield, jeopardizing the gains Ukraine has made and increasing the likelihood of Russian victories.

She further stated that supplies of military assistance have significantly diminished.

The United States has provided billions of dollars in aid since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has repeatedly pledged support to Kyiv as long as it is necessary.

However, this commitment faces growing opposition from some Republican lawmakers.
