The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has categorically denounced what it termed as “fabricated news” circulating on social media concerning the country’s stance on recent developments in Mali, particularly regarding the control of the northern border by the regular army with support from the “Wagner” militia.

In an official statement released on Saturday, the Ministry clarified that the information attributed to it in a statement circulating on social media is “false, baseless, and mere manipulation.” The Ministry expressed its strong disapproval of what it deemed “abuse against her,” emphasizing that it never communicates through platforms like Facebook while fulfilling its official duties.

The disputed statement, bearing the letterhead of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, circulated on social media, expressing Algeria’s denunciation of alleged violations by the Malian armed forces and the Wagner militia in the Azawad region. The statement referred to criminal activities against women and children, placing responsibility on the UN Security Council to address the situation in Azawad.

The fabricated document follows a pattern of false information, with a similar incident reported in early October. On that occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed dissatisfaction with a document circulating on social media, cautioning readers about potential harm caused by false information.
