The conflict between ethnic armed groups and the Myanmar military has escalated to the eastern and western regions of the country, impacting urban areas significantly, as reported by UN agencies.

According to the UN human rights office (OHCHR), the ongoing fighting has resulted in the reported deaths of about 70 civilians and incapacitated combatants, with over 90 individuals sustaining injuries.

This intensification of hostilities has also triggered a new surge in displacement, forcing over 200,000 people from their homes since October 27.

The total number of displaced individuals across Myanmar has now exceeded two million.

The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has highlighted the obstruction of key transportation routes in conflict zones, caused by both the military and ethnic armed organizations.

Reports indicate the destruction of at least one critical bridge, closure of an airport, and disruptions to telecommunication networks, limiting people’s movement to safer locations and impeding humanitarian access.

As the conflict expands to urban centers, the UN warns of the dire humanitarian consequences, emphasizing the urgent need for a cessation of hostilities to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected population.
