Egypt is gearing up to receive seven thousand foreign nationals slated for evacuation from the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing, as announced by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement on Thursday.
The statement disclosed that during a meeting on Wednesday, Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, Ismail Khairat, discussed with foreign diplomats “the preparations aimed at facilitating the reception and evacuation of foreign citizens from Gaza through the Rafah crossing,” noting that they amount to “around 7,000 foreign nationals holding citizenship from more than 60 countries.”
On Wednesday, hundreds of foreign nationals, dual nationals, and dozens of injured Palestinians made their way from the Gaza Strip to Egypt via the Rafah crossing, amidst the ongoing intensive Israeli shelling which targeted the Jabalia refugee camp for the second time in two days.
This evacuation effort underscores Egypt’s ongoing role in providing humanitarian assistance amidst the escalating conflict in the region.
The nation continues to work closely with international bodies and foreign diplomats to ensure the safe passage of foreign nationals caught in the conflict, reiterating its commitment to global humanitarian principles.
