Biden Opposes Republicans’ Bill to Only On Tuesday, skepticism emerged among members of the US Senate from both Republican and Democratic parties concerning a Republican-initiated proposal in the House to allocate $14.3 billion in aid exclusively for Israel.

This initiative plans to cut funding from the Internal Revenue Service without extending any assistance to Ukraine. President Joe Biden has threatened to veto the bill if passed by both chambers.

This legislative action marks the first significant move under the new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson.

Despite Biden’s request for a $106 billion package encompassing aid for Israel and Ukraine, border security allocations, and funding to bolster competition with China in the Indo-Pacific region, Republicans revealed a separate expenditure bill solely for Israel.

The Republicans hold a majority in the House with 221 seats against the Democrats’ 212, whereas Democrats control the Senate with a 51 to 49 majority.

For this measure to become law, it requires approval from both the House and Senate, followed by Biden’s signature.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, confirmed that the Republican bill stands no chance in the Senate, even if approved by the House.
