One person was killed and five others injured after a blast during emergency repair of a refinery in Iran’s southern city of Bandar Abbas last Friday, the country’s official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.
The Bandar Abbas refinery is one of the largest refineries in Iran. According to IRNA’s report, the gas leakage led to the explosion of gas condensates within the refinery premises. As of now, official authorities have not yet confirmed the incident.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first mishap at the refinery. A fire broke out on the 10th of July, as mentioned by the Reuters news agency.
Interestingly, the news about the previous fire was attributed to the “Young Journalists Club,” a local news agency run by students in the region.
A video clip circulating on social media showcased thick smoke billowing from the refinery site. A police car was spotted parked nearby, and bystanders gathered, trying to get a glimpse of the unfolding situation.
