The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, has received an official invitation from US President Joe Biden to visit Washington. This significant diplomatic gesture was extended during Al-Sudani’s meeting with US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
According to a statement by the media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister, broadcasted today, Tuesday, by Iraq’s “Al-Sumaria News” channel, the meeting between Al-Sudani and Blinken took place in New York. This gathering was on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various avenues of cooperation between Iraq and the United States. They emphasized the importance of bolstering partnerships across multiple sectors and levels. Secretary Blinken relayed President Biden’s invitation to Al-Sudani, intending to further deliberate on the bilateral relations between the two nations.
In response, Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for the invitation and indicated his readiness to accept it at a later, yet-to-be-determined date. He also underscored the significance of resuming the work of the joint US-Iraqi committee concerning the strategic framework agreement between the two countries.
