UNRWA Welcomes Italy’s Funding Resumption

Acting Director of UNRWA’s Information Office, Inas Hamdan, welcomed Italy’s resumption of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), describing it as a positive and beneficial step.

In an exclusive statement to Cairo News on Saturday, Hamdan highlighted the dire and catastrophic conditions in Gaza, emphasizing that supporting UNRWA prolongs the agency’s relief operations for Palestinian refugees across all regions.

She noted that the agency’s funding crisis persists, as major donors like the United States and the United Kingdom continue to withhold support, creating a significant funding gap.

Hamdan pointed out that the residents of Gaza rely almost entirely on the essential services provided by UNRWA, including health, education, and food.

She warned that the situation in Gaza is becoming increasingly difficult and catastrophic due to the ongoing closure of crossings, restrictions on truck numbers, the spread of diseases, continuous displacement, and limited availability of food and relief supplies.

Earlier today, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that Italy has resumed its funding for UNRWA.
