An Israeli airstrike on Wednesday targeted the Habbouch area in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least 7 individuals, reported the Lebanese Army.
The strike, which occurred in the early hours, was aimed at what Israeli sources described as a “militant” affiliated with the Islamic Group.
A spokesperson for the Israeli military stated that the targeted individual had been involved in “terrorist attacks towards Israeli territories” and had a history of involvement in various attacks on Israeli soil.
Additionally, several others described as militants were also killed in the same airstrike.
The Lebanese Hezbollah party condemned the Israeli targeting of a medical center in the town of Habbouch in southern Lebanon. They declared that such actions “will not go without retaliation and punishment.”
The Islamic Group, associated with Hamas, stated that an Israeli airstrike early today targeted a medical center in the village of Habbouch, resulting in the deaths of 7 medics.
According to the Islamic Group’s Lebanese Ambulance Association, the airstrike targeted a building in Habbouch used by their Emergency and Relief Department.
In a statement, the association denounced the targeting as a “heinous crime by all standards” and a blatant violation of international laws and conventions. Responsibility for this “heinous crime” was attributed to the executing party.
Meanwhile, another official from the group, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that more than 10 medics were present at the medical center at the time of the attack, and bodies have been recovered from the rubble.
Cross-border shelling between Hezbollah and the Israeli military has been nearly daily since the outbreak of war in Gaza on October 7.
Israel has been conducting airstrikes deeper into Lebanese territory in recent weeks, targeting Hezbollah positions, raising concerns of a full-scale war.
Since the beginning of the exchange of fire, at least 331 people have been killed in Lebanon, most of them Hezbollah fighters, in addition to 57 civilians, according to a tally compiled by Agence France-Presse based on party statements and Lebanese official sources. This toll does not include the casualties from today’s incident in Habbouch.
In contrast, at least 10 Israeli soldiers have been killed by fire from Lebanon.
