Attacks by Iraqi factions on the American base in Syria’s Al-Omar oil field have resulted in casualties among the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to reports.
Rami Abdul Rahman, the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, informed Kurdistan24 on Monday that the assaults, orchestrated by Iranian-backed Iraqi factions, led to five deaths and 20 injuries within the SDF ranks.
Armed factions in Iraq have claimed responsibility for targeting a U.S. military base inside Syria in a statement, without specifying any damages to the Al-Omar oil field base.
However, they emphasized their commitment to “strike the strongholds of the enemies.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday that there were reports of human losses following the bombardment by armed Iraqi groups, which they described as targeting “one of the largest American bases inside Syrian territory.”
While the Observatory did not mention the specific base that was hit, the armed factions indicated that they had shelled what they referred to as an American military base within Syria.
Earlier this month, US officials stated that the strikes hit four facilities in Syria and three in Iraq, where security officials reported damage in the city of Al-Qaim.
On his part, U.S. President Joe Biden affirmed that the US military response “will continue at times and places of our choosing.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla criticized the American airstrikes on Syria and Iraq as blatant violations of sovereignty, warning of escalating tensions and the risk of regional conflict.
“Cuba vehemently condemns the U.S. aggression against Syria and Iraq, which starkly breaches the sovereignty of these nations.
Such irresponsible actions contravene international law, exacerbate violence, and heighten the likelihood of a regional conflict,” Rodríguez Parrilla stated.
