In a bold move, more than 400 individuals from various backgrounds and faiths, employed across 30 different departments and agencies within the Biden-Harris Administration, have joined forces to express their concerns regarding President Joe Biden’s approach to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The open letter, released on Tuesday, urgently calls on President Biden to advocate for a cease-fire and to de-escalate the current situation, emphasizing the release of Israeli hostages and arbitrarily detained Palestinians.

The signatories, comprising a coalition of political appointees and civil servants working in federal agencies, departments, independent agencies, and the White House, highlight the need for immediate action to restore essential services such as water, fuel, and electricity in the affected regions. Furthermore, the letter underscores the importance of facilitating the passage of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

This collective plea adds to the mounting pressure on the Biden administration to reevaluate its stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The signatories stress the urgency of addressing the rising humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict, which has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians. The letter follows similar initiatives from within the government, including appeals from hundreds of Biden’s former 2020 campaign staff and congressional employees representing Muslim and Jewish communities.

Efforts to promote a cease-fire have gained momentum within Congress, with staff members urging lawmakers to support de-escalation amid concerns about the increasing prevalence of antisemitism, anti-Muslim sentiment, and anti-Palestinian sentiment nationwide. As the conflict persists, these unified voices from within the Biden administration reflect a growing consensus demanding swift and decisive action to mitigate the human toll of the Israel-Hamas war.
