A knife attack in the picturesque town of Annecy in the French Alps has resulted in injuries to four children and two adults.

The children, aged between 22 months and three years, were in critical condition from stab wounds and have been transferred to hospitals in the French Alps and Geneva.

Additional support is being provided to dozens of very young children who witnessed the stabbings, along with high school students who were also present and are receiving treatment for shock.

A 70-year-old man was seriously injured after being stabbed by the attacker and subsequently injured by police gunfire. Another adult was treated for injuries as well.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condemnation of the  attack through a tweet, describing it as an act of “absolute cowardice.” He further stated that the nation was in a state of shock in response to the incident.
