On Wednesday, three members of Lebanon’s powerful armed group Hezbollah have been wounded in an Israeli drone attack along the northern border with Lebanon.
Lebanon’s southern border regions have been experiencing an increased presence of Israeli surveillance drones. This development comes amid rising tensions between the two nations.
Earlier reports indicated that five Hezbollah members were injured on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese town of Al-Bustan. The cause of their injuries was initially unclear, attributed either to a landmine explosion or a bomb dropped by an Israeli drone.
Israel has not yet made any formal comments regarding the drone strike. However, this incident underlines the heightened tensions and continuing conflicts in the Middle East. This news follows the trajectory of escalating violence in the region, and experts are closely watching these events unfold, assessing their potential impact on regional stability.
The incident took place on the 17th anniversary of the start of a month-long war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006 that killed 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and around 160 Israelis, most of them troops fighting Hezbollah inside Lebanon.
The Lebanese source briefed on developments in the south described the incident as an attack and said several Hezbollah members had been wounded, but could not immediately provide more details.
In a countermove, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah claimed it had downed an Israeli drone that was allegedly carrying out field operations in the vicinity of Yaroun, a southern Lebanese town.
Following the explosion, Israeli military forces reportedly advanced toward the border fence with Lebanon, as per Israeli news sources. The development is a clear indication of the continuing tension and potential for escalation in the region.
