Three young children were injured, one seriously, in a stabbing attack as they were on their way to kindergarten in the Oerlikon district of Zurich, Switzerland.

According to a statement by Swiss police, reported by Euronews on Wednesday, the attacker, a 23-year-old Asian man, was arrested by law enforcement officers. “At this time, the suspect’s motives remain unclear,” the police added.

The three boys, all five years old, were immediately transported to the hospital to receive medical treatment for their injuries.

The children were accompanied by a kindergarten staff member who, with the help of another man, managed to overpower the attacker and hold him until the police arrived.

Zurich, one of Switzerland’s largest cities, is known for its generally peaceful environment, which makes this stabbing incident particularly shocking.

While violent crime is relatively rare in Switzerland, authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the suspect’s motive.
