In a significant milestone, the al-Ghaydah Airport in al-Mahra governorate, Yemen, saw its first commercial flight in years on Thursday, thanks to the restoration efforts by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY).
Yemenia Airways flight, arriving from Riyan International Airport in Hadramout governorate, marked the resumption of passenger arrivals at al-Ghaydah Airport, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The SDRPY’s project to restore al-Ghaydah Airport aimed to enhance its efficiency, ensure top-notch safety standards, and streamline transportation. By adhering to the requirements of international air navigation systems, the project aspired to elevate the quality of services provided to travelers and airlines.
SPA highlighted the SDRPY’s substantial contributions to Yemen, with 229 projects and development initiatives executed in seven key sectors. These sectors encompass education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, and capacity building of government institutions.
The reopening of al-Ghaydah Airport comes as a positive step forward in Yemen’s aviation sector and holds the promise of facilitating further developments and progress for the people of Yemen.
