A manhunt is in progress following a stabbing incident in Aberfan, a former mining village south of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:10 am, has led to an armed response and prompted nearby schools to initiate lockdown procedures.
A 29-year-old woman, believed by residents to be pregnant, was transported to the hospital via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident unfolded on Moy Road, and South Wales police confirmed that armed officers were on the scene conducting a search for the suspect who had fled immediately after the attack.
In a statement, the police said, “Local schools have activated their lockdown protocols to keep pupils safe whilst the incident is ongoing. We continue to request that people avoid the area so that we can effectively deal with this incident. The woman has been taken to the hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.”
Greenfield school, through the social media platform X, informed that it had implemented lockdown measures, keeping pupils inside the building and locking the gates. Reports also indicated that Ynysowen primary school in the vicinity was also in lockdown.
Gareth Jones, a local resident, described the victim as someone who had recently moved to the area and was heavily pregnant. According to Jones, the woman was taking her child to a local school when the assailant appeared unexpectedly. The suspect remains at large, and the police are actively engaged in the search.
An air ambulance landed on the Taff Trail walking track nearby to transport the injured woman to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
