The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that 37 out of 317 healthcare centres in Lebanon have ceased operations due to the ongoing Israeli military actions that began on September 23.
The statement was issued through the ‘X’ platform today, Friday, September 27, emphasizing the critical need to protect medical facilities.
In related news, media outlets in Lebanon reported that the majority of the closed medical centers are located in Southern Lebanon.
This area has been heavily impacted by the extensive and violent attacks launched by Israeli forces since Monday, which have resulted in over 728 casualties, including women and children, and approximately 2,658 injuries.
Additionally, about 390,000 individuals have been displaced, according to official Lebanese authorities.
The latest surge in hostilities occurred overnight and continued until the morning of September 27, affecting cities and villages across the western and central sectors of Lebanon.
Israeli warplanes targeted multiple towns including Deir Qanoun Al Nahr, Al-Haloussiyah, Dibeen, and others, leading to several deaths and injuries.
Furthermore, on September 24, the National News Agency of Lebanon reported an Israeli airstrike targeting a civil defense team from the Islamic Health Authority in Nabatieh Fouqa, resulting in five injuries.
Israeli airstrikes also hit several towns in the Tyre district throughout the day.
These escalating attacks come amid a wave of unprecedented aggression by Israel, leaving a dire impact on Lebanon’s civilians and healthcare infrastructure.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that, in the last 24 hours, 14 people were killed and 38 others were injured.
Through WHO’s statement, the international community underscores the essential nature of healthcare accessibility, equating it to the necessity of food, water, and shelter, and calls for the immediate cessation of attacks on healthcare facilities.
