US forces launched rocket attacks around the perimeter of Deir ez-Zor Airport in eastern Syria, according to reports from Cairo News Channel.

The strikes reportedly targeted areas surrounding the strategic airport, an area that has long been contested by various armed factions and serves as a key hub in the region.

The Deir ez-Zor province, located in eastern Syria near the Iraqi border, holds significant strategic importance due to its proximity to vital oil fields and trade routes.

It has been a battleground between Syrian government forces, opposition groups, and terrorist organizations like ISIS since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011.

In recent years, the presence of US forces in the region has primarily been focused on combating ISIS remnants and maintaining influence over the oil-rich areas.

Deir ez-Zor is also notable for its strategic airbase, which has been a frequent target in conflicts between US-backed forces and Iranian-aligned militias operating in Syria.

US forces in Syria are part of the broader coalition against ISIS but have also engaged in clashes with Iranian militias, which support the Syrian regime under President Bashar al-Assad.

These recent attacks follow a series of tit-for-tat incidents between US forces and Iranian-backed groups operating in Syria and Iraq.

Tensions have escalated in the region, particularly after Iran’s growing influence in the area and its support for militias that threaten US interests and allies.
