North Korea’s military has reported the scrambling of warplanes in response to a US reconnaissance aircraft’s entry into its economic zone off the eastern coast.

The state news agency KCNA conveyed that the incident transpired on Thursday and was deemed a “dangerous military provocation.”

An unnamed spokesperson from the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army stated that North Korea was contemplating measures to prevent future incursions.

This occurrence unfolded just before a summit involving the United States, South Korea, and Japan on Friday.

A South Korean legislator, citing intelligence agency information, suggested that North Korea might engage in military actions, such as launching an intercontinental ballistic missile, to voice its opposition to the meeting.

President Joe Biden’s meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at Camp David in Maryland is aimed at strengthening ties between Seoul and Tokyo amidst North Korea’s nuclear threats and China’s increasing regional influence.

Additionally, South Korea and the United States are set to commence 11 days of joint military drills starting Monday.
