In a recent turn of events, the US imposed fresh sanctions on Russia, this time targeting five Turkish firms over their involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine, as reported by Washington Daily News.
US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, stated in an official release that the American government is aiming its sanctions at those individuals and entities who are attempting to bypass the sanctions and are assisting Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. Furthermore, they are actively participating in bolstering Russia’s oil production.
It was disclosed that three of the penalized Turkish companies are suspected of supplying parts and equipment to Russian defense industry drone manufacturers. Two other Turkish firms, along with one of their owners, were sanctioned due to their services provided to Russia’s maritime sector.
These actions are part of a more significant move where more than 150 individuals, companies, and institutions were blacklisted this Thursday by both the US Treasury and State Departments for their alleged role in supporting Russia’s 19-month-long war against Ukraine.
The majority of those sanctioned are Russian manufacturers, trading companies, and institutes supporting the production of arms and other equipment for the Russian armed forces. This also includes their respective managers and overseers.
