The legislative body of the House of Representatives has announced the appointment of Patrick McHenry, a representative from North Carolina, as the interim president of the United States House of Representatives.
Following the vote that resulted in the removal of Kevin McCarthy from his position, the body clarified that according to the laws, the interim official is the person proposed by the former president himself, and the person mentioned first on the list.
In the House, the first name on the list provided by McCarthy was Patrick Mahoney from North Carolina. Patrick Mahoney will serve as the official interim president of the U.S. House of Representatives until a permanent president is elected.
On Wednesday morning, a majority of 216 members of the House voted in favor of the proposal to vacate the position of the House President, with 210 members voting against the proposal.
This marks the first time members of the U.S. House of Representatives have removed a House President from office.
It’s worth noting that Representative Matt Gates led the initiative to remove McCarthy due to his dissatisfaction with McCarthy’s settlement with Democrats, which resulted in the approval of a budget for 45 days to avoid the suspension of federal government activities.
McCarthy was also accused of negotiating a “secret deal” with President Joe Biden regarding funding for Ukraine.
This case represents the first impeachment of a House President in the history of the US, as McCarthy was elected to his position on January 7th, just five days and 15 voting rounds ago.
