In a significant development, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed that the United States holds the military council responsible for the safety of President Mohamed Bazoum and the detained government members in Niger.

The comments were made amidst growing concerns over the recent military takeover in the country.

According to reports from the American news channel, Al-Hurra, Blinken stated on Friday that the United States is joining the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in urging the restoration of constitutional order in Niger.

This move aligns with the regional consensus to ensure stability and democracy in the West African nation.

Leaders of ECOWAS recently convened in Abuja and decided to deploy a reserve force under the regional organization’s authority to restore constitutional order in Niger.

The decision was made in response to the military coup that took place on July 26th, resulting in the removal of Bazoum, the closure of borders, and the suspension of the country’s constitution.
