In response to a spate of recent armed attacks, the United States forces have halted information exchange channels with the Iraqi army stationed at the Ain al-Asad air base.

The move involves a significant restriction on the military information and data previously shared between the US forces and their Iraqi counterparts in the western military base.

The decision comes in the wake of precision attacks on specific targets within the Ain al-Asad base, prompting the US forces to take precautionary measures against potential future assaults. Reports indicate that the US military suspects the leakage of their coordinates within the base, attributing it to a local party linked to the attackers.

A senior Iraqi officer refuted claims of a severed connection between Iraqi forces in Ain al-Assad and US experts and trainers. The officer stated, “The training programme is continuing at its normal pace.” No immediate comments were available from the international coalition forces in Iraq.

Recent days have witnessed drone and rocket attacks targeting US forces in Iraq and Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the UK, reported ten strikes on the Kharab Al-Jeer base. Additionally, suicide drones were deployed, targeting a US base in the al-Shaddadi area in al-Hasakah’s countryside on Friday.

While casualties have not been reported, these attacks are perceived as retaliatory measures against US forces amid unfolding events in Gaza, according to the Observatory.
