The United States has emphasized the pressing need for the resumption of Ukrainian grain flow via the Black Sea.
In a tweet, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken mentioned a telephonic conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, stating, “The weaponization of food should never be an option.” Blinken added, “We also discussed peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Vereshinin, asserted that reviving the Ukrainian grain export agreement via the Black Sea, without Russia’s involvement, is implausible. Vereshinin noted that negotiations regarding the resumption of the grain deal are not ongoing. He further pointed out that the “Black Sea initiative hasn’t been resumed following Russia’s objection.”
This development underscores the geopolitical significance of the Black Sea route for grain export, especially given the tensions between Russia and its neighbors. Moreover, with the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan being intertwined in this discourse, it sheds light on the interconnected challenges faced by nations in the region.
