Turkey’s Ministry of Trade declared on Tuesday that it will impose restrictions on the export of certain products to Israel, conditioning the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, which has been under severe attack for months.
The Turkish ministry stated that the export limitations will remain in effect until Tel Aviv announces an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and allows for the adequate and continuous provision of aid.
According to the Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Ministry of Trade specified that the export restrictions to Israel cover 54 products, including construction steel, flat steel, marble, and ceramics.
In a statement, the ministry emphasized that Turkey has not sold any products to Israel that could be used for military purposes for a long time.
The statement highlighted the dire situation of the Palestinian people in Gaza, who are struggling with hunger and poverty and are prevented by Israel from accessing basic food supplies, aid, and medical resources.
The statement continued, “Since October 7, Turkey has been engaging in political and diplomatic efforts at the highest level, both internationally and within the Islamic world, to halt the conflict and prevent further human and material losses. Turkey’s primary goal is to achieve a permanent ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution, followed by the reconstruction of Gaza.”
The ministry also pointed out Turkey’s assistance to Gaza and its inhabitants, having delivered tens of thousands of tons of aid through ships and planes, particularly food, health, and medical supplies, and evacuated thousands of patients.
Turkey is calling on all members of the international community to play their part in ensuring that Israel complies with its obligations under international law.
The ministry’s statement noted that more than 33,000 Palestinians have died since October 7 due to the indiscriminate Israeli warfare.
