The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of three cruise missile launch platforms and an unmanned aerial system in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
The military action is part of ongoing efforts to neutralize threats in the Red Sea and protect international shipping lanes.
According to CENTCOM’s statement on its official “X” platform, Houthi forces launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles over the Red Sea.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or damages to U.S., coalition, or commercial vessels as a result of these launches.
In addition to the missile launches, a Houthi unmanned surface vessel targeted the M/V Tutor, a Liberian-flagged vessel owned and operated by a Greek company, in the Red Sea.
The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Houthi forces to maritime security in the region.
CENTCOM emphasized that the continued malign and reckless behavior of the Houthi movement endangers regional stability and the lives of sailors navigating the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The US military’s proactive measures aim to mitigate these threats and ensure the safety of international waters.
The conflict in Yemen has its roots in the Houthi insurgency against the internationally recognized Yemeni government, leading to a broader proxy war involving regional powers.
The Houthis, with substantial backing from Iran, have increasingly targeted maritime interests, prompting international military responses to safeguard navigation routes critical for global trade.
