The United States has emphasized that the refugee community in Lebanon bears no responsibility for the attack on its embassy in Beirut last Wednesday, which was carried out by a Syrian national.
In a post on the platform X, the US Embassy in Beirut expressed its gratitude for the “outpouring of support from friends over the past few days, especially for our local guard force member who was seriously injured in the attack.”
The embassy extended its thanks to the Lebanese government, the armed forces, and the internal security forces for their “partnership, professionalism, and bravery,” adding, “This attack will not deter us, and we remain committed to our enduring friendship with the people of Lebanon.”
The embassy further noted, “It is crucial that this incident is not taken out of context and used as a weapon against the refugee community in Lebanon, which bears no responsibility for the attack.”
Last Wednesday, the Lebanese Army reported that the US Embassy in Beirut was subjected to gunfire by a Syrian national. Security personnel engaged with the attacker, resulting in his injury and subsequent capture.
In a statement, the US Embassy in Lebanon confirmed the gunfire near the main entrance, assuring that the premises and its staff were safe, and that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
