The Houthi group in Yemen announced that three American-British airstrikes targeted Hodeidah International Airport, according to Cairo News. Meanwhile, the United States Central Command reported that the Houthis fired a ballistic missile from their controlled area in Yemen towards the USS Laboon in the Red Sea on Tuesday, which did not hit the destroyer, resulting in no material or human losses.
As per Al Arabiya, the Central Command added in a statement early Wednesday that “the United States Central Command and a coalition ship successfully engaged with two drones launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen and destroyed them.”
The statement also mentioned that “these weapons were deemed an imminent threat to commercial and U.S. naval vessels, and these actions are taken to protect the freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for U.S. and commercial ships.”
The statement further explained that “it was determined that these weapons posed an imminent threat to commercial vessels and US Navy ships, and these actions are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and make the international waters safer for the US Navy and commercial vessels.”
The latest developments highlight the ongoing tensions in the Red Sea, where Houthi rebel activities pose a threat to maritime security and commercial shipping. The international community has repeatedly condemned Houthi attacks on maritime traffic, calling for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
