The US government has sanctioned the sale of military equipment, including drones, to Taiwan in a deal valued at $360 million (€335 million).

The Pentagon and State Department announced the approval on Tuesday, emphasizing that the transaction aims to bolster Taiwan’s security, political stability, and regional military balance.

The package features Switchblade anti-personnel and anti-armor loitering munitions, ALTIUS 600M-V drones, and related equipment.

Loitering munitions are designed to hover near targets, striking at optimal moments.

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry expressed gratitude for the increased shipment volumes, addressing previous delays in delivery.

While the US frequently provides military aid to Taiwan, this deal may provoke disapproval from China, which claims Taiwan as its territory.

The US maintains a delicate stance, balancing its “One China” policy with congressional mandates to support Taiwan’s defense capabilities.

The State Department highlighted that the sale aligns with US national, economic, and security interests by aiding Taiwan’s military modernization and defensive readiness.
