The UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, has condemned Israeli forces for carrying out what she described as “another massacre” in Jabalia, a northern Gaza refugee camp.
In a social media post on Sunday, Albanese accused Israeli troops of committing acts of “unspeakable cruelty and sadism” against Palestinian civilians, labeling the soldiers as “willing executioners” in what she called a genocidal plan.
Albanese criticized the international community, pointing out that these actions are being carried out with Western support and weapons. She expressed frustration that despite widespread awareness of the atrocities, global efforts to stop them have failed. “No much progress has been achieved in the past 100 years,” she lamented.
In a similar vein, Palestinian Ambassador Majed Bamya, the deputy permanent observer to the UN, sounded the alarm about the escalating violence in northern Gaza. Bamya described the situation as a “genocide within the genocide” in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Reports from the ground indicate that Israeli forces are burning and bombing homes in Jabalia with tanks and artillery, while using Palestinians as human shields. The Israeli military is also pressuring medical personnel to evacuate hospitals in the area, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. Hundreds of Palestinians have reportedly been killed in the offensive over the past few days.
Additionally, the Israeli military has been accused of imposing starvation warfare on Jabalia’s inhabitants, cutting off access to clean water and other essential supplies. The situation in northern Gaza continues to draw urgent calls for international intervention to halt the ongoing violence.
