Heitham Abu Saeed, the head of the International Human Rights Council mission to the United Nations, has urged the United States to make a political decision to end the crisis in Lebanon and mitigate the escalating tensions in the region.
In an exclusive statement to Cairo News Channel on Friday, Abu Saeed highlighted that Washington has provided Israel with $8.7 billion in military supplies, indicating its tacit support for the military operations conducted by the occupying state in Lebanon.
He warned of the serious situation in southern Lebanon, noting a significant displacement crisis with a large influx of people, stating that there is insufficient capacity to accommodate all those displaced.
While acknowledging that it is impossible to fully address the demands arising from this displacement, he mentioned that assistance is being provided at a minimal level.
Abu Saeed added that emptying the south of Lebanese citizens could have positive implications for safeguarding civilian lives. However, he cautioned that it may also signal preparations for a larger military operation that could take place in southern Lebanon in the coming days.
