Ukranian Drone Shot Down by Russian ForcesRussian Forces Down Ukrainian Drone over Belgorod Region
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems have successfully destroyed a Ukrainian drone launched over the territory of the Belgorod region in the early hours of Sunday.
The ministry further stated on the Telegram application: “No injuries or damages occurred,” indicating that the incident took place at around 4:00 AM local time (01:00 GMT), according to Reuters news agency.
The Belgorod region is situated in southern Russia, bordering Ukraine.
On Saturday, Russian military forces claimed to have shot down 20 Ukrainian drones in proximity to the Crimea Peninsula. This follows the July incident where Ukrainian drones targeted a munitions warehouse in Crimea, causing damages to the Kerch Strait bridge, which serves as a vital connection between the peninsula and mainland Russia.
According to an announcement on Telegram by the Russian Defense Ministry, their aerial defense systems successfully neutralized 14 of these drones, while another six were rendered ineffective through electronic warfare measures. Fortunately, the incident resulted in no reported casualties or infrastructural damages.
Furthermore, officials in Moscow recently detailed another drone incident aimed at the capital, marking the latest in a series of airborne threats to the city in the past days.
The Defense Ministry highlighted that a Ukrainian drone was destroyed above the western regions of Moscow. Once again, there were no casualties or damages incurred as a result of this intrusion.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first significant drone-related security breach for Russia from Ukraine. In July, Ukrainian-operated drones caused considerable damages when they targeted a munitions storage facility in the Crimea Peninsula. Additionally, the Kerch Strait bridge, a crucial link between Crimea and Russia’s mainland, also suffered damages in the attack.
As tensions continue to mount, both nations remain on high alert, with the international community keenly observing the situation.
